James Whitman is a writer and a creative writing tutor, based in Sunderland. He specialises in collaborating with artists and community groups, creating work that is both accessible and innovative. (You can read about some of his projects here.)
In addition to his writing and project work, James runs creative writing workshops throughout the north-east of England. He has worked with The Cultural Spring, New Writing North, The Customs House, and various other arts and community organisations, exploring everything from short stories to ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ games.
Previously, James worked in youth justice and children’s homes for over a decade. He has two sons who regularly beat him at board games and make him listen to music he doesn’t understand.
